Why we decide to publish CS TA's Weekly during the preparation of a TA training course?

The literature about teacher education and our personal experiences both indicates that excellent TA competency wouldn't be formed by an one-and-for-all course. It could and should be continuously improved after the course/orientation finished.

However, seeking for useful materials actively and reading relative papers from SIGCSE would be a heavy burden for most graduate TAs. The most they could accept would be some subscription to medium or substack accounts and give it a brief look when they are in toilet. Sadly there's no such account, at least no such Chinese account.

Then why don't create one?

So here we are. Every week, we will introduce one high-quality course, one assignment design worth imitating and one inspiring computing-education research paper.

Actually, these contents are easy to find, but hard to choose from. There are too many of them.

If we have enough resources, we would also create the following sections:

• TA Diary, sharing your experiences and feelings as a TA.
• Sci-Fi meets Computing, an article introduce one CS concept that appeared in a sci-fi plot.
• Discussion, provide a platform for TAs to exchange ideas about a given topic.

If you have any suggestion, please submit an issue. It would help us a lot.

Update: after trying for a while, we couldn't keep up the weekly cadence... but we'll keep trying other forms, e.g. "computing-education paper reading" style.

2024-04-15 update: Afterwards we still intend to publish one relevant item per week — a book/paper/course/assignment/theory, etc.

From now on filenames like 2024_01.md denote the first item of 2024.
